Anyone who visited the site yesterday may have noticed that things were amiss. We were indeed hijacked by the old robot porn pirates but thanks to our crack web enforcer Bob at TehCompany.com things are back to normal now so feel free to wander around the site and if the urge strikes why not visit the SHOP and pick up new stuff from The Buddy System or a comic while you wait for the upcoming release of Ruby Isle’s full-length “Night Shot.”
Thanks to everyone who let us know about the problem, here’s to hoping we can dodge the roboporn uprising next time!
Most people who lurk around this here blog have heard of The Buddy System but seeing as how we are getting ready to head to SXSW I figured I would post some videos (sorry about the crap quality of YouTube) and an MP3 demo as an introduction for the uninitiated.
Check out the videos, snag the MP3 (keeping in mind that it’s a demo ‘natch), make friends with the band and then make plans to hang in person at The Light Bar on Friday March 14th at 11pm.

Last week Ruby Isle decided to cover the number one song on elbo.ws. It happened to be Shadow Falls by Hello, Blue Roses. We posted about it here. This turned out to be a really fun experiment. In only a few hours we tried to take a beautiful, somber, ambient song and turn it in to a party jam. It turned out so well that I decided to send it to a few friends and they all really seemed to like it. Some people also pointed out that it was a very surreal experiment in that we actually released a cover of a song before the actual song itself was officially released. It really pointed out the immediacy of the musical world we live in where release dates have really become nothin’ but a number.
This week we decided we would take the experiment a little further. We are going to continue to do covers of the #1 spot on the elbo.ws hot tracks chart on a semi-weekly basis until we get bored or the songs get bad. Mark, Aaron and I are then going to blog about it here at kinderblog hq and let everyone know what we did, how we did it and post a copy of the song. Mark will talk about the technical side of the original track, I will discuss what we did to it and Aaron is going to add a graphic interpretation of our cover for each song. We figure someone might find our analysis of these tracks interesting Keep in mind, we won’t be criticizing them, just covering them and talking about the technical aspects of the original songs.
The process itself is kind of interesting since Mark and Aaron live in Minneapolis and live down here in Athens, GA. Thanks to yousendit, we are able to record, mix and master the tracks within a few hours by sending tracks and files back and forth. Then we will post it here and let you have it. The whole thing can really be done in a matter of hours if we have time and are inspired. Obviously, starting with a good song is really going to help!
With that said, this week’s track is already done. Aly Walk With Me by Raveonettes should be up very soon.
Disclaimer: Yes I know that this is the “WORDS” section and that we do in fact have a “VIDEO” section but since I haven’t had time to discuss the issue with Dan I didn’t want to post what amounts to a Presidential endorsement from Kindercore until we had a chance to toss the issue around.
So anyway… I personally became disenchanted with Hillary quite a while ago and have recently grown skeptical of Obama’s weak stance on the environment and health care. Kucinich is amazing but since we live in the land of Larry the Cable Guy his candidacy serves only to keep vital issues on the table.
So… I find that more and more I am supporting Edwards - he is strong on the environment and health care, he remembers that New Orleans used to actually be a city and has shown a drive to address issues that effect those who need help the most. I do take issue with his support for civil unions over marriage for all sentient humans but I was pleased to see his wife (who is pretty fucking killer in her own right) Elizabeth stand up and say she supports equal rights for all - no matter where they prefer to put their private parts.
Anyway… that was a way too long way of setting up this video which the Edwards campaign aired on CNN tonight during the CNN/YouTube debates. If you have paid any attention to politics in the past year you know about Edwards’ $400 hair cut and the sideshow it inspired among those who would have us take our eyes off the ball.
Here is John’s rather effective and biting response:
Some of you may have noticed the influx of spam posts in our forums and comments sections. Amazing.
Seriously, some Russians (or more likely some Russian robots - make of decomissioned Cold War ICBM parts no doubt) have taken to posting hardcore porn videos in the Kindercore Forums. For real. Close up anal penetration videos in forums on indie pop, the environment and politics - could they not at least have the decency to start a new forum section designated for close up anal penetration videos? I mean I am sure that some of you might be looking for that sort of thing and I imagine you would appreciate knowing where to look instead of being ambushed in an inappropriate forum.
Have some decency Russian robots! Announce your porn, don’t spring it on us when we are looking for information on how to reduce our carbon footprint or where to see the latest Kindercore combo performing live.
Anyway, we are on it - playing a low stakes game of Whack-A-Mole with Russian Robots - WOO HOO!!
I have to give props to Youtube director wallywacko. His video for Animal Collective’s “Leaf House” is creative, has a bit of digital wizardry, and stars himself making the type of weird faces I only make in front of the mirror when no one is around. This unique interpretation of someone else’s work is what the internet is all about, as far as I’m concerned.
