RIP Randy Bewley

Yesterday we lost one of the good ones. Lucas’ piece about Pylon’s Randy Bewley in Idolator is far better than anything I could write so go read that HERE.

The Thermals vs. Ruby Isle elbo.ws 2.6

For those who are keeping track, we missed a week. My dad was in the hospital and I had to go see him in Milwaukee so that caused us to miss a week. Last week we would have covered The Heartless Bastard’s The Mountain, but fortunately for them they were spared our mistreatment. It’s a shame because the combination of The Heartless Bastards and Ruby Isle may have sounded like Nine Inch Nails. With that aside, this week we got to tackle The Thermals’ Now We Can See.

I love this track. Just like the Bon Iver song I found myself getting lost in the original as I was trying to learn the lyrics. As with The Black Lips, I have a fun history with The Thermals. Amy and I toured with them in I am the World Trade Center. It was a really fun bill, Mates of State, I am the World Trade Center and The Thermals. We had such a great time. That was probably my favorite tour ever. This song actually turned out very different than I had thought. Mark added some low key magic and some cut copy-esque loops to make it one of my favorite covers we have ever done. I really want to thank The Thermals for writing such a fun song!

Also, The Ruby Isle Daytrotter Session debuted today. Go check it out here! It is an interesting sound for us since it is essentially a live recording with real, live drums!!!

Black Lips vs. Ruby Isle - elbo.ws 2.5

Thanks to the fun time Black Lips had in India, their new track Short Fuse, skyrocketed to #1 only 4 days after they let it out into the wild. And it was lucky for us!!! I have quite a history with the Black Lips as my old band The Agenda played a few infamous shows with them.

I am super excited to get to cover their new track!!! Again, this track isn’t officially out yet as the record doesn’t drop until Feb. 24th, but here it is, covered before release.
