Another year, another elbo(.ws)…

Ruby Isle - White Winter Hymnal (Fleet Foxes Cover).mp3

UPDATE (1-07-09) : We shot a video for the song last night and just finished editing it.

Its that time of the year again! Well, sort of. I don’t even remember when we started this mess last time. But when Ruby Isle last left the project we said we were on pause. I guess with this track we have pushed the elbo.ws play button once again.http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/NGSPOD06/114040~A-well-camouflaged-Arctic-fox-sits-in-the-snow-Posters.jpg

For those of you that have no idea what i am talking about, last year Ruby Isle covered the number one song on the elbo.ws website each week and released them to the wild via this blog. Our goal was simple, to get ready for our upcoming album by covering songs that were stylistically very different than what we were doing with the band. It turned out the project was a great success and we learned quite a bit from it.

This year, we have decided to bring it back. Our intention was to begin the first of the year, but for some reason we were very apprehensive to cover the number one song as we rolled into the new year; Fleet Foxes’ White Winter Hymnal. It just didn’t seem like the right song to start things off. Therefore we waited a few days before starting. It soon became clear that this song wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon and we were anxious to get going so we decided to tackle it head on.

We had only listened to the track once before and when we put it back on we suddenly had a bunch of ideas for it. The ideas that stuck were heavily influenced by Daft Punk’s Around the World and Kraftwerk’s Autobahn. Since Mallman is working on his new solo record I took over vocal duties on the vocoder. We hope you like vocoder because you can probably expect a lot of it on the new project.

While working on this song I really sort of fell for it. I was not a big fan the first time I heard it, but the line “to keep their little heads from falling in the snow” really won my heart. We hope you like our version of it. Please let us know what you think!
