Quit Crying You Fucking Baby

top 10 movies that have made me cry

1. Ordinary People- the final scene where Donald Sutherland stands up to Mary Tyler Moore for his son crushes me.

2. You Can Count On Me- nothing more heartbreaking than the fuck up uncle/brother who breaks his family’s heart and has to leave town.

3. Transformers the Movie- they killed ALL the fucking Autobots in like the first five minutes of the movie and then they killed Optimus Prime. it was too much for my 7 year old self to handle and i made my mom take me home before the movie was over.

4. Where the Red Fern Grows- Old Yeller is the film that made most kids have nightmares about their pet dying, but Where the Red Fern Grows ups the anty by killing off two dogs. fucking hell! and they showed it to us in elementary school! those heartless bastards!

5. Brian’s Song- oh Jesus, this is the movie that made your dad cry when you were a kid. football and cancer is a lethal combo.

6. Rocky IV- Apollo Creed dies.

7. Saving Private Ryan- the opening sequence is too shocking to get you, but the entire siege at the end of the film where all your favorite characters are getting killed off will bring out the water works for sure.

8. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest- i watched this one night by myself at like 4 o’clock in the morning and got so into that when the chief has to put jack down and breaks free from the asylum that i just bawled for about 30 minutes.

9. Glory- fucking hell! the end of the movie when the guys are just getting slaughtered and Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington both get killed and their bodies fall together while the rest of the men charge into certain death will kick your ass.

10. Stand By Me- if this doesn’t make you cry then you probably have never had friends.

Athens Is Being Overrun with Nerds, must be Popfest

NERDS! NERDS! NERDS! NERDS! NERDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah. Athens, Georgia becomes Nerdsville, USA for the weekend as Popfest begins tonight…although technically it started last night when i watched quiet possibly the worst band i’ve ever seen in my life perform a free show at the CINE…seriously my ears will be angry at me for years over that one. anyways even though i’m a hater i’ll be out and about. gonna check out Roky Erickson for sure and then i wanna try and catch The Apes, The Fainest Ideas, Elf Power, and a few more bands who i don’t think suck. also gotta go support the Kindercore Family and check out the leaders in horse related violence The Buddy System (those guys are just begging for a PETA protest) and Dan Geller’s new elctrorock outfit Ruby Isle…it’s good to know Dan can take time away from savin’ the world to dance around and play keyboards still. hopefully if i am drunk enough the music will all sound awesome. see you kids out there.

Ruby Isle’s debut Night Shot is in the Kindercore Shop Today!

I just added Ruby Isle’s debut disk Night Shot - featuring guest vocals by Tay “Chocolate Rain” Zonday and Amy “I Am the World Trade Center” Dykes! - to the Kindercore Shop.
Pick up a copy today!!

The record kills, but don’t take my word for it. Check out this review in the Flagpole:

“Call this genre Bronski Beat You Up. Ruby Isle’s marvelous blend of disco, pop and riffy cock-rock was hinted at in their earlier ventures into recorded music, including the elbo.ws project (in which the duo covered the number-one song on the popular music blog aggregator over a series of weeks - the EP is included here too, but, while the covers of songs by Dan Bejar, M.I.A., and Stephen Malkmus are great, they pale in comparison to the original works).

However, the debut album, Night Shot, pulses it all together into a record that contains more moments of pure joy than anything else this year. Hyperbole? Possibly, but show me another record that can make you pump your fist with little to no irony. The title song crackles with electricity from its opening, then incorporates the extreme silliness that is the deep, weird voice of “Chocolate Rain”’s Tay Zonday with seemingly effortless style.

Liking something just because it’s stupid is a waste of time, but glee in overkill is another thing entirely. There are moments at which Ruby Isle sounds like a band from behind the Iron Curtain that was locked in a basement sometime in the mid-1980s; a band that relishes the heck out of vocoder, that fixes its hair very carefully before leaving the house, that could probably work a Speedo and that, essentially, is utterly focused on making you dance your pants off.”

Hey Buddies!

Despite some technical difficulties on Friday, ObamaRad.com is now live! Head over to the site and pick up some shirts. Remember the shirts are $10 and $12 with 25% of the money you spend going directly to electing Obama in November.

And in case you are wondering, the remaining 75% isn’t going to line our pockets, it’s going to pay for the shirts and printing… drop on over there now and snag ‘em while they’re fresh!

Art Nerds Attack

It’s sad that Kanye West beat Kindercore to the punch on this one: this Japanese art show is kind of like cow parade or those damn bulldogs scattered around Athens, only all in one place and with Darth Vader helmets.

If I’d wear this one, I know you would.

Kindercore Shop: now with ART! Soon vinyl!!!! Then Ruby Isle!!

Hello peoples!

I am in the process of updating the Kindercore shop with new stuff. I just uploaded 3 original one of a kind acrylic on wood paintings by The Buddy System’s Lauren Gregg. Buy ‘em HERE!

In the next few weeks I will be adding a vinyl section to the shop where you can buy Kindercore stuff that people have long thought was out of print (but was really just in my closets and shed). Sorry eBay, looks like those jacked up prices for Of Montreal and Dressy Bessy vinyl have met their match!

Then we’ll drop the Buddy System/Ruby Isle - Return to Buddy Isle color vinyl split 7″ featuring “Tesla Sez” and “Flagpole Sitta” from the Buddy System and “Hey Hey Hey” and “No Sweatpants” from Ruby Isle!!

Of course none of this compares to the main event - Ruby Isle’s debut “Night Shot” - which hits the streets and the internets on 9/16 but will be debuting in our shop exclusively sometime in the next week or so.

So why not head over to the shop and treat yourself to something pretty? You’ll be happy you did. Promise!

-Ryan

ObamaRad.com Launches Friday 8/8/08

This Friday Jeff Griggs, Nick Canada and I are launching a webstore to raise money for the Obama campaign in GA. You can check out the front page HERE and add us on MySpace HERE.

Please help us spread the word, this election is a big deal (no, seriously… haven’t you heard?!) and we really want to help grab our fair state from the clutches of the GOP.

Here is some more info from the site explaining things and what have you…

“After looking in every tube on the internets, we found that there are very few options to A) get rad-looking and inexpensive Obama t-shirts and B) connect a solid monetary high-five to Barack Obama.

We think our shirts are awesome, and we hope you do too. But, the best thing about these shirts is that we’re donating 25% to help Obama win the election in November. Not 25% of the profit, mind you, but 25% of whatever you decide to spend. In essence, if you buy a $10 shirt, you’ve helped us donate $2.50. If you buy a $12 shirt, you’ve helped us donate $3.00. If you buy $1256.38 worth of shirts, you’ve helped us donate $314.10… You get the idea.

About the Donations: A large part of the impetus behind the creation of Obamarad.com was the realization that our home state, Georgia, is actually in contention for the first time since 1992. taking Georgia from the GOP this year would be a massive body blow to the far right and we want to do everything we can to ensure that the Peach State goes Blue. Subsequently, we’re donating whatever we can to the Georgia Campaign for Change!

About the Shirts: All shirts are high-quality, super-soft American Apparel Tees. Unlike other printers, we’re not caking the ink on these shirts so you feel like you’re walking around with a vinyl car seat attached to your chest. You’re going to be comfortable, and you’re going to look like a million fucking dollars. We’re starting off small, but plan on adding designs as we can afford it. Obviously, American Apparel t-shirts are pricey, so we’re barely covering our costs. But, the objective isn’t for us to line our pockets with unicorns… it’s to help Obama help us all.

About Shipping: All shirts will be shipped first class via the USPS. Due to fluctuations in stock, please allow 7-10 days for delivery. For multiple order shipping quotes, please email us at obamarad (at ) gmail.com

About Us: Obamarad.com is the brainchild of three Athens, Georgia-based musicians who all, at one time or another, kicked a bunch of ass at the University of Georgia. Our county (Clarke) has long been a tiny blue oasis in a desert of red. We’ve certainly experienced our fair share of war-mongering, unfair taxation, oil-whoring, environmental destruction, ridiculous lending practices and general tyranny. America should not be a 98,589,451,022,605.6 square foot Wal-Mart. We’re ready for change.”
